There has been a new standard for the well-known AIS MOB (Man over Board) rescue transmitters since January 1, 2021 (ECDIS 63269 IEC 2022). This standard states that all “AIS MOB” devices with DSC (Digital Selective Calling) also need a DSC receiver. In addition, all automatic mechanisms must be able to be switched off.
From January 1, 2025, the sale of the previous AIS MOB devices will be prohibited. It is still unclear whether the use of such devices will still be permitted from this point onwards.<\/p>\n

Until now, the AIS MOB devices could only send in the DSC “closed loop”. This means to a circle of previously programmed MMSI numbers (Maritime Mobile Service Identity Number).<\/p>\n
The new AIS Class M devices (AMRD Group A = Autonomous Maritime Radio Devices) also send in the “open loop”, i.e. they send an official distress call to the GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) rescue chain.<\/p>\n

A DSC receiver is essential so that the rescue transmitter can receive confirmation as soon as the distress signal is confirmed by a potential first responder or a rescue coordination center (MRCC = Maritime Rescue Coordination Center). The DSC receiver is therefore necessary in order to be able to switch off the distress signal after it has been received in order to keep the radio channel free.<\/p>\n

According to the latest standard, all “automatic” functions, i.e. automatic triggering mechanisms, must be able to be switched off. To prevent an emergency signal from being sent accidentally during storage or transport, for example, it must be possible to deactivate the automatic triggering of a rescue transmitter. The easy2-MOB meets this requirement with a slider that can activate or deactivate all automatic functions.<\/p>\n
