Vietnam is increasingly developing into a major location for shipbuilding, maritime infrastructure, and international logistics. As part of the “Business Initiation Vietnam 2026 – Shipbuilding & Maritime Industry” program, Weatherdock participated in a delegation trip with the German maritime industry to learn about current market developments on-site and to intensify its exchange with the sector.
Structured Market Access through the German-Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce (AHK Vietnam)
The delegation trip was organized by the German-Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce (AHK Vietnam), which, as part of the global network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad, supports companies in entering the market and establishing local business relationships. Through targeted company visits, networking events, and B2B discussions, it facilitated direct access to key players in the Vietnamese maritime industry.
Da Nang as a Major Maritime Hub
A key focus of the trip was Da Nang, an important center of the maritime industry in Central Vietnam. The visit to Tien Sa Port, one of the region’s most important seaports, was a highlight. In discussions with representatives of Da Nang Port JSC, participants gained valuable insights into modern port logistics, international trade flows, and the planned development of the site. The port underscores Vietnam’s growing importance as a high-performing hub in Asia-Pacific trade.
Insights into Vietnam’s Shipbuilding Industry
Another item on the agenda was a visit to a leading shipbuilding and repair yard. The company plays a central role in the development of the national shipbuilding industry and highlighted the sector’s increasing innovation and investment potential.
The discussions revealed, in particular, the rising demand for modern maritime technologies and the growing opportunities for international cooperation.
New Impetus for Maritime Security Technologies
For Weatherdock, the trip provided an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the Vietnamese market, establish contacts with decision-makers, and learn firsthand about current requirements in the areas of maritime security, navigation, and AIS technologies.
The direct exchange with shipyards, port operators, and industry representatives yielded valuable insights into market demands and future technological developments. Vietnam is increasingly positioning itself as an attractive growth market for innovative maritime solutions.
Thanks to the organizers and partners
Weatherdock thanks the German-Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce (AHK Vietnam) and all participating partners for the excellent organization and the open, constructive discussions throughout the trip.
The contacts and insights gained provide a valuable foundation for further developing international cooperation. Weatherdock will continue to closely monitor the development of the Vietnamese maritime industry.
