Functionality:

The easyAIS receives the AIS VHF radio signals, actually most send by the commercial vessels (but also from an increasing figure of pleasure boaters). These signals are proceeded into a NMEA Signal which can be interpreted from the latest chart plotter or a PC software. The unit has got an integrated antenna – splitter and this makes the installation of the unit to the existing VHF antenna very easy. By means of the integrated splitter with integrated RF-signal amplifier physical losses are eliminated, which is unique in nowadays market.

What is necessary to use the easyAIS-IS Generation?

There is necessary the own existing VHF antenna and nothing more. The VHF Radio as well as the regular radio can be connected to the easyAIS-IS.

Which Chart plotter/PC software fits together with the easyAIS?

Most of the nowadays new chart plotters or PC software are capable to show AIS data on the screen.

The ClassB unit easyTRX2S receives AIS ClassA and ClassB signals and transmits its own data according to ClassB standard.

Function

All the easyTRX2S series have a great variety of applications: You can connect it to a PC or laptop through a USB port. Using a software, you can choose the speed transmission between 38400 or 4800 Baud data rate. Function activity is shown by 8 LED’s.  The easyTRX2S is able to interpret incoming AIS data for CPA alert or AIS S.A.R.T. emergency messages. Additionally, the easyTRX2S devices can be used as power source for external alerting devices. All received and transmitted AIS data can be stored in and internal SD Card recorder. With the build-in multiplexer input, 3 devices with different baud rate can be plugged to the easyTRX2S units. The external cable gives the possibility to choose between “silent mode” or “PAN PAN emergency call”.

The integrated VHF antenna splitter enables to use an existing VHF for AIS and HF radio at the same time. Before the incoming signals are separated, the built-in pre-amplifier increases the signal strength to avoid physical loss.

The integrated NMEA2000 Adapter enables to connect this AIS transceiver into the latest NMEA2000 network standard aboard.

NMEA2000 is a new data form which enables to plug different devices in a row on the data stream. Each units takes his special data out of the stream. This is also called “BUS-system”.

Up to now devices communicated in data form NMEA0183. It was mandatory that all devices had to be connected directly with each other. With the new standard, the only thing to do is just to plug the unit into the NMEA2000 data stream.

All easyTRX2S devices with the appendix “N2K” do have an internal converter that is converting NMEA0183 into NMEA2000 and forwarding the new data form into the NMEA2000 network.

What is needed to run the easyTRX2S?

The Class B device needs a separate GPS antenna. As an alternative you can run the easyTRX2S with the VHF antenna switch easySPLIT-OCB for using your existing VHF antenna. A separate GPS antenna is still needed. Another alternative is the VHF/GPS combi antenna.

The integrated GPS antenna is the new part of this AIS transceiver unit. This reduces the need of an external GPS antenna mounted on deck if the easyTRX2-iGPS is going to be used on Polyester boats.

For stainless steel vessels this unit is not useful. Here you have to connect a separate GPS antenna to the unit.

The easyTRX2S units with the appendix “IGPS” contain an integrated GPS antenna with 50 channel receiver. These units are designed to be used on polyester boats because there is no GPS interference. The ClassB can be mounted under deck but above sea level.

By means of this integrated GPS antenna a separate mounted external GPS antenna is no longer needed.

With Stainless steel boats as well as Kevlar and aluminum boats these units cannot be used. In such cases an external separate GPS antenna for the ClassB unit is mandatory.

What is needed to run the easyTRX2S?

The Class B device needs a separate GPS antenna and an own VHF antenna. As an alternative you can run the easyTRX2S with the VHF antenna switch easySPLIT-OCB to use your existing VHF antenna. A separate GPS antenna is still needed. Another alternative is the VHF/GPS combi antenna.

The easyTRX2S-WiFi receives the incoming AIS data sent by commercial vessels (Class A) and pleasure boats (Class B). These telegrams are processed into a NMEA protocol which can be interpreted by chart plotters or PC software. With the wireless link to your mobile device, these data will promptly be received there as well.

The easyTRX2S-WiFi transmits according the AIS-Class B standard all own AIS data like ship name, speed and course over ground, etc. to every AIS receiver or transceiver within its radio range. Using the easyTRXS2-WiFi is the simplest way to make yourself visible to others, having all necessary information about your surrounding too.

Running the “easyAIS” App, you will see a radar screen appearing, showing all received AIS targets within range. A click on a target will prompt you detailed information to this specific target, such as ship’s name, speed and course over ground, etc. Additional information to your own boat’s navigational status like your own speed, course, wind, etc. are available through sub-menus of the App, if you feed the easyTRX2S-WiFi built-in multiplexer with boat information.

Function activity is shown by 8 LED’s.  The easyTRX2S is able to interpret incoming AIS data for CPA alert or AIS S.A.R.T. emergency messages. Additional the easyTRX2S devices can be used as power source for external alerting devices. All received and transmitted AIS data can be stored with internal SD Card recorder. With the build-in multiplexer input 3 devices with different baud rate can be pluged to the easyTRX2S units. At least the external cable harness gives the possibility for outsourcing functionaly like “change into silent mode ” or “PAN PAN emergency call” by switch.

The integrated VHF antenna splitter enables to use an existing VHF for AIS and HF radio at the same time. Before the incoming signals are separated, the built-in pre-amplifier increases the signal strength to avoid physical loss.
The integrated GPS antenna is the new part of this AIS transceiver unit. This reduces the need of an external GPS antenna mounted on deck if the easyTRX2-iGPS-N2K-WiFi is going to be used in Polyester boats.
For stainless steel vessels this unit is not useful. Here you have to connect a separate GPS antenna to the unit. The easyTRX2S units with the appendix “IGPS” contain a integrated GPS antenna with 50 channel receiver. These units are designed for the use on polyester boats because there is no GPS interference. The ClassB can be mounted under deck but above sea level.

By means of this integrated GPS antenna a separate mounted external GPS antenna is no longer needed.

With Stainless steel boats as well as Kevlar and aluminum boats these units can not be used. In such cases an external separate GPS antenna for the ClassB unit is mandatory.

Using the easyTRXS2-WiFi is the simpliest way to make yourself visible to others, having all necessary information about your surrounding too.

Running the “easyAIS” App, you will see a radar screen appearing, showing all received AIS targets within range. A click on a target will prompt you detailed information to this specific target, such as ship’s name, speed and course over ground, etc. Additional information to your own boat’s navigational status like your own speed, course, wind, etc. are available through sub-menues of the App, if you feed the easyTRX2S-WiFi built-in multiplexer with boat information.

Software RACE-TRACK

Video 'Live on Tape'

Video 'Live on Screen'

WinGPS is a navigation software for sport boats that can run on standard Windows PCs and notebooks.

The software is available in three different versions: Navigator, Pro and Voyager.

From the „Pro„ version on, it is possible to display an AIS-object, among others, in a sea map with diverse information. Furthermore, it is possible to display traveled routes on a sea map on the basis of their  GPS Positions and play them back on a screen.
It is also possible to display more than one route at the same time and compare them with each other.

Displaying the routes is also possible with the free version WinGPS 5 Lite.

For the tracking of boats for observation purposes, or to present on screen regatta competitions, the software can be supplemented by a “race track” module.
The race-track module receives the AIS signals from boats, modifies and forwards them to the WinGPS software. This is an advanced feature, in addition to the “normal” AIS functions possible such as: representation of boat symbols in different colors, the course marker for the regatta represented  with special symbols,  displaying or concealing information about the boat depending on the object type. Furthermore, an additional module enables the constant logging and storing of the AIS positions of all objects.

This can later be displayed as lines in WinGPS, which can be evaluated and also exported.

Due to the possibility of using standard nautical charts in different formats for the sporting boat area in this software, it is possible to provide a realistic and clear ly  background image of the boat positions and routes almost worldwide. In addition to this, it is also possible to create one’s own special maps, which are based on Google-Maps or similar programs, for example.

The potential emergency messages from AIS transmitters are clearly highlighted with special  icons in the map.

Overview of functions

1 Representation of the current boat position as an icon on the screen on a nautical chart.
Various configuration options of representation:

  • View name of the boat
  • Display speed of the boat
  • Different colours per boat
  • Current course
  • Expected course

Calculation of the estimated course, even if a position signal has not been received

2 Representation of stationary objects, such as the course markings at regattas with actual positions when they are equipped with an appropriate transmitter.

3 Manual insertion of stationary objects in fixed positions when they have no position transmitter.

4 Recording of objects with different information and configuration options, such as:

  • Total length of the route
  • Different colors
  • Total duration of the route
  • Indicator of the speed at a given position in the subsequent playback of routes.
  • Exporting routes

Product information

Functionality:
The GPS antenna of the company Weatherdock AG is GPS antenna suppling “raw data”, not NMEA data. The antenna is connected in an easy way to the easyTRX (or any other AIS Class B transceiver) If you use the GPS antenna, you nevertheless must have a separate VHF antenna for the easyTRX.

What is necessary to connect the GPS antenna?
There is no special device or adapter necessary. The antenna is supplied with a 5m long cable and the right plug to connect it to the easyTRX. The cable itself can be extended by a cable extension up to 15m. But, please if you extend the cable, please use a good cable, eg. Aircell 7 or similar and not the regular RG58.

For which Class B AIS the antenna can be used?
The GPS antenna can be used for every Class B AIS transceiver which needs GPS raw data. (Most of all Class B AIS do need raw data GPS antennas!) Reseon for that please find under FAQ.
