Real-Time vessel & object monitoring by VHF

The system allows persistent locating and monitoring of vessels and moving objects in a special area via VHF technologies. The vmsTRACK-PRO-CS is working with CSTDMA Class B transmission functionality. CSTDMA is the abbreviation for “Carrier Sense Time Division Multiple Access”, which is used for AIS Class B units. The vmsTRACK-PRO-CS operates on the principle “listen before talk”. If a transmission is due, the transceiver watches the dedicated slot and if there is no transmission in the slot from a Class A transceiver, then the CSTDMA unit starts transmission on its own in this slot.

Palm-sized for every request

The vmsTRACK-PRO-CS is a small portable “grab’n’go” position transmitter, which broadcasts in a pre-set time interval via VHF radio frequencies. The unit is ideal for coastal fishing fleet, movement monitoring of harbour vessels, small target tracking and pleasure boaters tracking. It is suitable for fishermen, vessels, leisure boats, ski jets, harbour crafts, pilot vessels, etc. The system is expandable to a full target management system. With the usage of the vmsTRACK-PRO-CS real-time-tracking system, a radar-less traffic monitoring system for economic application is possible. By means of the transmission, information about current GPS position as well as curse and speed over ground of the object, real-time-tracking and monitoring of  objects is possible for a base station. Such a base station only needs a special tuned receiver unit to get these position reports, if customized frequencies are used. The creation of a “closed user group” is possible with such a system, in which only the base station has the permission to look into, thanks to these customized frequencies. The vmsTRACK-PRO-CS is also able to run on regular AIS frequencies which makes a special tuned receiver needless.

Geo fencing possible

Special areas can be programmed into the unit (not to enter or not to leave). They are called “Geo-Fence-Areas”. The vmsTRACK-PRO-CS unit gives visual alerting by flashing LED if this geo-fence-function is triggered and a special information message is immediately sent to the base station. Only the base station will be able to interprete this message.

Intelligent tamper-proof solution

If the unit is stolen or tampered, an intelligent high tech solution will trigger a flashing LED to inform the vessel’s Captain. A special message is also sent to the base station. This special message is sent within the normal position report, but only the base station can decode it.

“Who and Where” for coastal security and fleet management

The real-time-knowledge of “who and where?” is very important in administration of coastal fishing fleets, as well as in coastal boarder security issues. By transmission of special names and unit IDs, “friend or foe” identifying is possible.

Additional emergency distress button

The small vmsTRACK has got an additional emergency distress button. By triggering the alert function, additional to the regular position report on special frequency, according to customer’s specification and with approval of the national authority, an official emergency message will be sent out on both regular AIS frequencies to reach every AIS receiver within transmission range of the vmsTRACK.

Basic needs fulfilled

This small device is waterproof to a depth of 10 meters.

PRESS RELEASE „easyONE – AIS MOB Emergency Transmitter“

Full automatic AIS MOB unit “Made in Germany”

We have the pleasure to present Weatherdock’s latest AIS rescue device: The easyONE AIS MOB Emergency Transmitter. The easyONE is the first fully-automatic AIS Emergency Transmitter of its kind worldwide.

Its patented release mechanism will take your boat’s crew to a new level of safety. A group of experts developed this brilliant release mechanism that automatically puts in place an antenna (in storage rolled up in spiral shape) once the easyONE gets into constant contact with water. At the same time it triggers an alarm and sends a MOB emergency message (Man over Board). This emergency message, which, of course, can also be activated manually, will be received by all AIS receivers within reach (up to 7 nautical miles – depending on weather conditions and the height of the receiving antenna). All kinds of displays on receiving vessels, such as chart plotters, will consequently display this alert and make an immediate rescue action a lot more probable. Weighing 120 grams the easyONE AIS emergency transmitter is equipped with two lithium battery cells making possible 36 hours of constant operation at 0°C outside temperature. When properly stored the batteries have a life span of 7 years.

The easyONE comes with an integrated 56-channel GPS receiver that is ready to operate within around 35 seconds (counting from power-on to connection to satellites). Furthermore a bright flashing High-Power-LED light will make sure persons are also found at night and with low visibility.

Due to its low weight and compact dimensions (168 x 48 x 27mm) Weatherdock’s easyONE can be easily attached to all automatic life vests. Furthermore the device is fully waterproof (up to 10m depth) and floating and can thus be used as a MOB life buoy in combination with a lifesaver. For the next maintenance of your life raft you might also want to think about having the easyONE integrated into the raft. No matter which application, the easyONE has to be attached to your equipment (lifejacket, lifesaver or clothing) with the provided hand line. This is the only way to ensure the person-over-board is staying close to the easyONE, which is crucial to lead rescue services to the location. When transmitting the easyONE sends the AIS standard messages No 1 and 14. The first message contains the AIS position report, the device identification number as well as course and speed over ground. Message 14 which is, like message 1, constantly updated and sent in certain intervals contains a safety message, the device identification number as well as the text messages “MOB active” or “MOB test”. The text messages inform about the state of the AIS emergency device and whether it is in test-mode or not. The test-mode can be activated at the push of a button and shows the correct functioning of the AIS device with the MOB test symbol.

The AIS Emergency Transmitter easyONE is instantly ready for operation. You do not need to register the device or subscribe to a service.

Get the best of both to alert vessels about situation of distress

If a „MAN OVER BOARD“ situation happens, you need to keep the victim in sight. It is essential for his survival.

The easyRESCUE-PRO has been developed based on the well-known and approved AIS S.A.R.T. device easyRESCUE. In addition to the AIS locating functionality, the easyRESCUE-PRO has got another built-in VHF alert: DSC distress call (MOB)

By means of DSC distress call, other vessels having DSC controllers aboard are able to provide support as a potential emergency responder. It‘s a lightweight personal locating device which is fixed to clothing or lifejackets and which can be mounted onto a pole for use on life rafts.

Function

Upon activation, the easyRESCUE-PRO device starts transmitting position reports via AIS, providing the current GPS position along with COG, SOG and its individual unit ID.
The victim‘s position is updated every minute and transmitted 8 times per minute for at least 96 hours, depending on the DSC closed loop distress acknowledgment. Therefore the crew of the ship will know exactly the victim‘s position, as well as every other ship with an AIS receiver or DSC controller within range.

When in emergency, AIS messages are transmitted. It triggers a safety related message on every AIS chart plotter with a worldwide standardized symbol.

By means of DSC distress call (MOB), this signal can be received by the GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety Service), which is installed on numerous vessels and shore stations. The MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Center) is part of the GMDSS (DSC) network.

The easyRESCUE-PRO starts sending “closed loop” DSC distress alerts when activated. This “closed loop” message is addressed to the own ship of the victim. Up to this time no global alarm is initiated.  The crew on the own ship can decide to rescue the victim on this own and send out a DSC acknowledgment to the easyRESCUE-PRO, which stops sending DSC messages. In addition, the easyRESCUE-PRO offers the possibility of programming up to eight mother ships ID numbers (MMSI) into the device to those users, who often need to change a vessel like pilots, SAR crew members, etc.

Any vessel within the “closed loop” group (up to eight vessels) can acknowledge these distress telegrams, which lead to a termination of the DSC distress calls send out by easyRESCUE-PRO. If the “closed loop” distress telegrams are not acknowledged, the easyRESCUE-PRO starts sending „open loop DSC distress calls“ (MOB) to all ships. Now the shore station or other commercial ship stations nearby can acknowledge this message and the easyRESCUE-PRO will also cease transmitting DSC. The global rescue operation will go on.

What is necessary to run the easyRESCUE-PRO?

The easyRESCUE-PRO needs no additional accessory. The device is ready to use, grab‘n‘go! An AIS receiver and a DSC controller are strongly recommended as a radio equipment on the own ship. Only then a fast and effective rescue operation can be conducted by the own crew.

Get_the_best_AISMOB_everThe new easyONE is a palm sized AIS MOB device. The easyONE comes along with an automatic triggering function, which initiates transmission of an AIS MOB emergency message. The unit has got a brand new release mechanism, which will increase the crew’s safety level aboard. By means of the palm size, the easyONE can be integrated into every automatic lifevest.

Function

In case of a “man over board” situation the lifevest inflates and exposes the easyONE. If fully submerged, the unit is activated and the antenna will be unfolded. This AIS MOB is fixed at the victim’s lifevest via cord and floats in front of the victim. A strong LED flash light ensures better visibility at night. easyone-features-en Being activated, the easyONE starts transmitting a full AIS MOB emergency message. This contains the individual unit ID, current GPS position, als well as COG and SOG of the victim. Because the unit ID starts with “972…”, each AIS receiver within range of 7 to 8 nautical miles (bad conditions and height of receiving antenna may lower range) identifies this emergency message. The connected chart plotter or PC screen will display the official MOB symbol (red X with red circle). Two LEDs show functionality of the unit easily. This will ease the usage in situation of distress. If the easyONE is triggered once, the battery capacity will last for more than 36 hours of continously transmitting. Because of this and his palm size the AIS MOB easyONE is the perfect companion.

The easyONE is ready to use and there is no registration or license needed.

The new easyONE-M is a palm sized AIS MOB (Man over Board) emergency transmitter with pure manual activation. Due to its small size the unit can be used within all kinds of watersport fun activities where automitical life jackets and unit activation when submerged don’t make any sense. Nevertheless, having an emergency transmitter is very useful.

Function

The broadcast of the emergency telegram is based on a worldwide standardized VHF transmission system, which is mandatory by law for commercial shipping since 2007: AIS (Automatic Identification System). On these frequencies, vessels communicate with each other to avoid collision. Within these transferred data, there is information like current GPS position and course and speed over ground. More and more pleasure boaters also use such an AIS System just to be informed about the surrounding commercial vessels for safety reasons. The easyONE-M is fixed to the body with a safety-cord which ensures that the unit will keep floating in front of the victim. A strong and bright LED guides the victim for better visibility in darkness. In case of emergency the unit is activated by pressing a button. This will trigger an emergency broadcast transmission. A full AIS MOB message is sent. This message contains the individual unit ID, the current GPS position of the unit, as well as curse and speed over ground. The unit ID allows the AIS receiver aboard to display the official symbol (red X with red circle) on chart plotter and computer displays (within a range up to 7 nm and more). The victim’s position is updated every minute and transmitted 7 times within 60 seconds. This will lead to a maximum of potential emergency.

E

A027 easySPLIT OCB

Functionality:

The easySPLIT OCB (OCB stand for “operates Class B) is checking whether there is a transmission power from the VHF radio or from the Class B AIS receiver to the Antenna. When this is the case the easySPLIT disconnects the other connected units very quickly (the AIS receiver and the car radio). If all the units are in reception mode, the units are all connected to the same antenna.

A quick disconnection is necessary because the Class B AIS Transceiver transmit their signal with a power of 2 W in a very short period of time. Therefore, the used splitter, the easySPLIT OCB, must disconnect the other units even faster than the Class B AIS transceiver is giving out its message. The easySPLIT OCB is disconnecting the other units in less than
1 ms!

What else do I need to use the easySPLIT OCB?
You do not need anything apart from your already existing units (e.g. VHF antenna) and of course a power supply.

What is suitable for the easySPLIT OCB?
All existing VHF radios, all existing AIS Class B transceiver and all existing FM radios can be connected to the easySPLIT. Nevertheless, the optimum of performance can be achieved if you use other units of the Weatherdock AG because these units are perfectly-matched.

  • Frequency selective power divider with 2 transmit/receive ports (VHF radio and Class B AIS) and 1 receiver port

A087 easyWATCHBOX

Documents
easyWATCHBOX – external signal source for different dangerous situations.

With the easyWATCHBOX you are informed about the most important dangerous exposures in pleasure boating within only one box:

  • CPA alert for collusion potentials
  • AIS S.A.R.T. alert for incoming emergency signals
  • Battery low

To be single handed aboard don‘t gives you the time to watch out the chartplotter for danger potentials every minute. In these situations it is very useful to be informed automatically.

Function

The easyWATCHBOX will be integrated into the data stream between the AIS device and the chartplotter or PC/Laptop. Now the incoming AIS data are analyzed for special parameters. If one of these figures is triggered, for example AIS S.A.R.T. emergency signal, the unit starts alerting by visual and acoustic signals.

By means of two buttons it is possible to adjust the time and distance figures for the CPA alert.

The triggered alert could be muted by button. But only this special case. If another dangerous situation comes up, the alert will go on again.

This CPA alert function can be disarmed by pressing two buttons at the same time.

Another alerting function is battery low. By means of being plugged to the boats power supply, the voltage is checked
continously by the easyWATCHBOX.

If a certain voltage level is undershot, the unit starts alerting.

What is nessesary to run the easyWATCHBOX?

To use the easyWATCHBOX an AIS Receiver or Transceiver is the only request.

  • Monitoring of the AIS data stream via NMEA0183 input
  • Alerting device for AIS S.A.R.T. active (message 1 and 14)
  • Alerting device for CPA figures
  • Alerting device for battery low
  • Acoustic (95dB) and visual alert (LED)
  • Power supply 9-32VDC, 6mA
  • Internal signal source with 95dB
  • LED signal for AIS S.A.R.T.
  • CPA Alert (closest point of approach)

Persistent locating where necessary!

The easyPOSALERT is a portable position transmitter which uses VHF technology.
The device enables the persistent locating and monitoring of moving objects within range.

Function:

The easyPOSALERT has a built-in GPS receiver. After manual activation the device transmits the current GPS position by means of VHF signals in a preset time interval. This position report is sent on customized VHF frequencies, so a “closed user group” may be arranged. Each unit of the easyPOS-ALERT can be personalized individually. In case of an emergency there is an alert function which transmits on regular frequencies receivable by everyone within range.

The easyPOSALERT is floatable and waterproof to a depth of 10m. The rechargeable batteries have a lifespan of 5 days, depending on the pre-set transmission interval. The transmission range of the easyPOSALERT is from about 10nm (10m height of receiving antenna) up to 40nm (air craft at 1000 ft).

The easyPOSALERT is especially suitable for race boats, ferry boats, pilot vessels, jet-skis, smaller fishing boats and charter boats. Fact is: the easyPOSALERT is needed where persistent locating and monitoring of moving objects becomes necessary.

What is necessary to run the easyPOSALERT?

Each object going to be monitored and located needs an easyPOSALERT. The charging station provides intelligent and ideal charging, which ensures the long lifespan of the batteries. The object-related data is programmed into the device by the customers administrator or by the manufacturer. Only a VHF receiver, the easyAIS, is needed to receive the customized signals of the easyPSOALERT. It is factory pre-set to the custom frequencies. Normally the “closed user group” as well as all other objects are displayed on the chart plotter or PC screen.

The usage of an easyTRX2S-IS allows the management of different “closed user groups” on the same customized frequency

Function

With an integrated GPS-module the easyPOS’N’HOOK transmits the current position of the buoy similar to an AIS message via custom VHF frequencies. The sent position and the object-data programmed into the device will only be received when the receiver on the boat is tuned to the same custom frequency. The current position of the buoy will be displayed on a terminal or PC screen within the transmitter range.

With the TEST button all settings and transmissions can be checked before starting. Being activated once by pressing RUN, the POS’N’HOOK does send its position signal currently, one time per 3 minutes.

Notified immediately  if necessary!

The CPA³-alarm is an additional accessory to bundle different functions and actions at a central point.

Functionality
The CPA³-alarm combines an acoustic signal generator for a triggered CPA-function and an incoming AIS S.A.R.T. emergency notification with a switch to change to the “silent mode” and an uncovered “PAN PAN”-switch.

This device receives impulses from the easyTRX2 and TRX2-IS, respectively once the set CPA-function has been triggered and turns them into acoustic signals. This also applies to the incoming AIS S.A.R.T emergency notifications. These two acoustic signals differ from one another in order to be able to allocate them more easily.

The “silent mode” switch turns off the transmit function of the connected easyTRX2 or easyTRX2-IS, with the result that no data about the vessel and its position is sent. This notification contains the message that you are having a problem and that you are asking for help. An AIS telegram type 14 is sent.

What is necessary to operate an easyCPA³-alarm?
It is required to have an easyTRX2 or an easyTRX2-IS in operation. Only with these two devices it is possible to set the incoming AIS signals in relation to the settings of the CPA-function and to initiate respective actions.

Dimensions

  • Bottom plate: length 81 mm, width 31 mm
  • Box: height 27 mm
  • acoustic pressure of the signal generator: 105 decibel
  • frequency: 2.9 kHz continuous tone
  • operating temperature range: -20°C – +60°C
  • operating voltage is analogous to the connected easyTRX2 or easy TRX2-IS
  • protective cap for the “PAN PAN” switch prevents an accidental triggering

A052 easyCPA

Information
The CPA-alarm is an external signal generator for the CPA (Closest Point of Approach)-function and for the acoustic notification of an incoming AIS S.A.R.T emergency telegram.

Functionality:
The easyCPA-alarm is designed as additional equipment to the AIS transmit-receivers easyTRX2 and easyTRX2-IS and it improves the safety on board.
With this external acoustic signal generator it is ensured that previously defined potential dangers are recognized through the CPA-function of the receiver and hence are signaled clearly.
AIS emergency telegrams that were sent by activated AIS S.A.R.T are recognised and signalized. Thus a temporarily delayed perception through sleep or turned off terminal devices is prevented.

The device receives impulses by the easyTRX2 and by the easyTRX2-IS, respectively as soon as the set CPA-function was triggered and turns them into acoustic signals. The easyCPA-alarm has two different acoustic signals, to be able to differentiate between CPA-warnings and AIS S.A.R.T.

What is necessary to operate an easyCPA-alarm?
You need an easyTRX2 or an easyTRX2-IS in operation. Only with these two devices is it possible to set the incoming AIS signals in relation to the settings of the CPA-function and to initiate respective actions

The ClassB unit easyTRX2S-IGPS-N2K-WiFi receives AIS ClassA and ClassB signals and transmits its own data according to ClassB standard. The received data telegrams are processed into a NMEA protocol which can be interpreted by chart plotters or PC software.

Function

All the easyTRX2S series are performing with a lot of useful features:

By means of USB port connection to PC or Laptop is possible. With the software, one can chose between 38400 or 4800 Baud data rate. Function activity is shown by 8 LED’s.  The easyTRX2S is able to interpret incoming AIS data for CPA alert or AIS S.A.R.T. emergency messages. Additionally, the easyTRX2S devices can be used as power source for external alerting devices. All received and transmitted AIS data can be stored with internal SD Card recorder. With the build-in multiplexer input 3 devices with different baud rate can be plugged to the easyTRX2S units. At least the external cable harness gives the possibility for outsourcing functionally like “change into silent mode ” or “PAN PAN emergency call” by switch.

The integrated GPS antenna is the new part of this AIS transceiver unit. This reduces the need of an external GPS antenna mounted on deck if the easyTRX2-iGPS-N2K-WiFi is going to be used in Polyester boats.

For stainless steel vessels this unit is not useful. Here you have to connect a separate GPS antenna to the unit. The integrated NMEA2000 Adapter enables to connect this AIS transceiver into the latest NMEA2000 network standard aboard.

With the wireless link to your mobile device, these data will promptly be received there as well.

What is needed to run the easyTRX2S-IGPS-N2K-WiFi?

The ClassB device needs to have its own GPS and VHF antennas. As an alternative you can run the easyTRX2S with the VHF antenna switch easySPLIT-OCB for using your existing VHF antenna. A separate GPS antenna is still needed. Another alternative is the VHF/GPS combi antenna.

easyTRX2S-IGPS-N2K-WiFi and gadgets that work together

Your PC has to work at least on WIN XP SP2 and screen resolution 1024*768 for configuration. Plotter or PC software have to be AIS compatible to display incoming AIS data on screen. A MMS number is required to broadcast data – you will get it from German “Bundesnetzagentur” or the competent authority on your country. Your distributor will program your easyTRX2S for that MMSI number. By means of the NMEA2000 adapter the unit can be connected to all devices running with this NMEA standard.

The ClassB unit easyTRX2S receives AIS ClassA and ClassB signals and transmits its own data according to ClassB standard.

Function

All the easyTRX2S series have a great variety of applications: You can connect it to a PC or laptop through a USB port. Using a software, you can choose the speed transmission between 38400 or 4800 Baud data rate. Function activity is shown by 8 LED’s.  The easyTRX2S is able to interpret incoming AIS data for CPA alert or AIS S.A.R.T. emergency messages. Additionally, the easyTRX2S devices can be used as power source for external alerting devices. All received and transmitted AIS data can be stored in and internal SD Card recorder. With the build-in multiplexer input, 3 devices with different baud rate can be plugged to the easyTRX2S units. The external cable gives the possibility to choose between “silent mode” or “PAN PAN emergency call”.

The integrated VHF antenna splitter enables to use an existing VHF for AIS and HF radio at the same time. Before the incoming signals are separated, the built-in pre-amplifier increases the signal strength to avoid physical loss.

What is needed to run the easyTRX2S-IS?

The Class B device needs a separate GPS antenna. Another alternative is the VHF/GPS combi antenna.
